Welcome to the IC Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WSET for short!) society webspace.
We have a few main goals-
1) Promoting SET careers amongst women in College- we hold CV sessions and networking evenings in the winter term.
2) Enhancing the flow of girls in SET departments at University- You can be a part of this effort by volunteering for our Engineering Open Day held in the Spring Term which a hundred school girls attend! OR Robogals- enough said! Check them out at: http://www.robogals.org.uk/
3)Bringing some fun and creativity to your extra curricular life style! In 2009 WSET invited 100 women from college to be a part of A next generation portrait series- we had set up a photo studio in the Sherfield Building and hired a fabulous photographer (Jackie King). The gorgeous portraits of Imperial women were exhibited in the Main College Entrance during the week of International Women's Day. One year later and London's City Hall has decided to exhibit the '100 Women 100 Visions' portraits during 15 February 2010- 19 March 2010! Check this out at: http://www.union.ic.ac.uk/scc/100women100visions/index.html or click on '100 Women 100 Visions' in the panel on the left hand side.
So this is just our way of celebrating the presence of women at Imperial as well as getting the women of Imperial involved in the community and having a blast! Watch our website and this space for our next big International Women's Day event- and if you have any ideas, let us know!
It goes without saying that everyone is welcome to participate in our events. We are not a society solely for women- we are a society that promotes SET amongst women- and anyone who wishes to do so can join us!
