Overseas Societies Committee
iNite tickets now available HERE
It is well known that Imperial College contains a wide range of international students. With such a high percentage of overseas students, it’s hardly surprising that some of the largest and most active societies are those representing foreign students and culture. There are around 31 overseas societies.
All the societies are open to all students, and one of the best aspects of their existence is the fact that most societies have lots of members from outside the country they represent. This helps to strengthen links between all cultures, religions and nationalities on campus, resulting in a surprisingly low level of racism for such a multi-cultural college.
On the other hand, for overseas students who find themselves miles from home for the first time, these societies create a sense of familiarity and togetherness.
As well as cultural shows and events, all the societies have a strong social side, either participating in inter-university sports, organising cinema trips and dinners, or just getting blind drunk once a month.
The Overseas Committee Chair is Marie Louisa Awolaja: marie-louisa.awolaja06@imperial.ac.uk
As well as organising their own events and promoting foreign culture, all the overseas societies get together once a year to present iNite (International Night), the biggest Union event of the year and this includes a dances, comedy, fashion and music and other cultural performances from around the globe. This year's show will take place in Kensington Town Hall on 7th March. Tickets are avaiable from our online shop:
