Choir

Choir

The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 7:30pm until 9:30pm (although at least one post-rehearsal drink at the bar is mandatory) in the Drewe Lecture Theatre at Charing Cross during the Autumn and Spring terms, and is made up of around 40 singers from the Medical School and its associated hospitals. There is no audition to become a member, just turn up willing to have fun (and pay your subs)! We usually go away for a weekend in the Autumn term, this year we are heading to Canterbury on the 14th and 15th November, and give two concerts a year. This term we are doing Handel’s Messiah as the main work with a couple of other short pieces along side, culminating in a concert at the end of the term.

Tom Smith - Choir Conductor

Tom is now going into his third year of conducting ICSM Choir and after tour and four successful concerts performing everything from Handel's Dixit Dominus, Haydn's Creation and the Last Night of the Proms he is really looking forward to another fantastic year working on the most famous choral work ever- Handel's Messiah.

Know for his occasional bizarre rants and his ability to down a bottle of wine, Tom's rehearsals are always a highlight of the week and no matter what happens, everyone always has a great time, unless the altos stop singing words just before a concert!

Tom believes that choir is not about putting on perfect concerts- that happens anyway (of course!) but about enjoying the opporunity to get together, make some great friends and rehearse the occasional bit of music!
