The ICSM Men’s Hockey Club was established in 1909, when Prof. Hockley FRCS, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Charing Cross & St. Mary’s hospitals, emerged from his burning house with only what he could grab to hand; a pair of red trousers (with the legendary wooden peg still attached to them), a hockey stick and a pint.
With over 50 members the club is firmly set as the one of the “big four” winter sports at med school. As UH champions, we are the best medical school hockey club in the country; a title we will be eager to defend as the new season approaches. Whether you’re a hockey god or want to improve your stick skills (on or even off) the pitch, you’ll fit right at home into one of our 3 teams as the club will provide you with a great platform to become quickly established into sporting life at medical school.
Our traditional mixed Oxford Tour at the start of the academic year is a great way to get integrated into the Men’s and depending on how lucky you are, our resident Women’s clubs. For a change of hockey, and probably also women, we also go on an International Tour each year; recent destinations include Prague, Barcelona & the infamous, “Narnia”.
With the addition of pre-season training, the prospect of an uber-international tour and a load of absolutely wicked older years, we look forward to welcoming you to the almighty ICSMHC.
